Revealed by the Son

Revealed by the Son

The other morning my son announced, “Mom, I really think I’m going to be just like Dad when I grow up.”
“Why is that?” I asked.
“Well, because I think my eyebrows will grow into one like his. And, whenever somebody speaks to me, I never hear them.”

This comical story illustrates and important truth; that children reveal characteristics about their parents. In the same way Jesus came to the earth to reveal to us important truths about His Father. In Jesus coming to this earth He wanted to correct the distorted concept of the Godhead. A proper conception of God is revealed by the Son.

Jeremiah 9:23–24

23 This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, 24 but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.

The Character of God.

This passage lets us know that above all it is important that we understand specific attributes about God. God exercises loving kindness, justice and righteousness. Not only is this what God is about but He takes pleasure in these things. Sometimes we are tempted to believe that God does not care about justice or righteousness or mercy, but the truth is these attributes define God. There is an enemy who want’s to distort the character of God therefore Jesus came to this earth to make clear to everyone what the heavenly Father is actually like. The Father is accurately revealed by the son.

Did the best teacher fail?

In John 14:8-10 we read about how the disciples of Jesus did not understand who the Father was even though Jesus demonstrated Him to His disciples. The question is how is it that God himself could walk beside you and you not comprehend who He was? The failure was not on the part of Jesus but the part of  His disciples to understand. This example shows to us that even with the best teacher and the best teaching that sometimes people do not get it. Something had to happen on the inside of the disciples for them to understand what Jesus was teaching about the Father. We must have patience with ourselves and with others when they do not get it. The love of the father is revealed by the son. We also have the opportunity to real the Son to people by the way that we treat them. Who are we revealing by our actions to people.

Prayer: Lord thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to help us to clearly understand who You are. Bestow us with patience for ourselves and others when we just don’t get it. May we come to know You, Your will and Your ways more completely. In Jesus name amen.

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but how our minds are set is able to affect our learning. To establish the reality of free will, God gave us minds that are able to believe error as well as truth, but how we discern between the two depends on how we are educated. What we see when we look at a picture can be as subjective as what we hear. The life that Jesus lived manifested the truth of the written and spoken Word, and those words were the essence of love.
God is love, but the reality of that does not matter to those who have a false concept of what love is. The power to oppress has no bearing on love unless the one who exercises it does so in love. All of the knowledge that exists has no bearing on love unles the person who has access to it uses that knowledge in loving ways. People knew that Jesus practised love, but they were looking for aspects of God that they could not comprehend and ignoring what they could.
As Christians it is important for us to act as Jesus would and not get caught up in trying to behave as those who don’t know Him insist that we should behave. The ways of God are not the ways of men and we can only be men pleasers at the expense of our relationship with God. The best way that we can show our love to others is to treat them as God would: not as they want us to. When they are able to understand, they will praise and worship God and thank Him for us.
