A grandfather found his grandson, jumping up and down in his playpen, crying at the top of his voice. When Johnnie saw his grandfather, he reached up his little chubby hands and said, “Out, Gramp, out.”
It was only natural for Grandfather to reach down to lift the little fellow out of his predicament; but as he did, the mother of the child stepped up and said, “No, Johnnie, you are being punished, so you must stay in.”
The grandfather was at a loss to know what to do. The child’s tears and chubby hands reached deep into his heart, but the mother’s firmness in correcting her son for misbehaviour must not be lightly taken. The grandfather could not take the youngster out of the playpen, so he crawled in with him.
God loved us so much that when the law cried out death He sent His Son to give us an opportunity at life. He crawled into the playpen of life and showed us the way to life everlasting. Love found a way.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
In God sending His Son He gave heavens most precious gift, in order to save those whom He loved. The gift did not demonstrate His love toward us but He loved us before He sent His son. When sin entered in this world God held nothing back in order to make sure we would be reunited again in the family of God. The love of God the Father can not only be seen in the sending of His son but in a story about another son who left his fathers’ care for another reason. That story can be found in Like 15:11-24. The fathers’ love is first demonstrated in vs 12 when the father allows him the free choice of going out into the world and making his own decisions. We continue in vs 20 , the father was waiting for the son to come back and without question accepts him back into the fold. In vs 21-24 the Father celebrates because his son who was dead is now alive.
Each of us at one time or another have drifted away like this prodigal son. We have decided to make a journey into the far country to make a name for ourselves or to experience the world. Against our better judgement we set out on a journey. When we meet the inevitable bottom we run back to our God who never left us but was waiting for us to return back to him. With no questions asked God accepts us back and celebrates because He just love us that much.
Prayer: Lord You are our heavenly Father. You are waiting intently for us to come back to You when ever we stray. Help us to come to our senses and return to our homes with You. Thank You for Your love, please continue to draw us with Your loving kindness. In Jesus name amen.
